Wednesday evening 2nd December from 20.00 : 2 hours of Liszt on the Concertzender!
Programme maker Mathieu Heinrichs will be following Liszt's trail from 20.00 tot 21.00 in his series Franz Liszt, episodes from the life of an artist. In this episode he covers the Schumanns.
Thea Derks will also be covering Liszt, from 21.00 tot 22.00 in Panorama de Leeuw. Reinbert de Leeuw had discovered Liszt discovered during his studies at the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam. He was fascinated by the way Liszt in pieces such as Nuages gris and La lugubre gondola pushed the boundaries of tonality and preceeded the atonale music of Arnold Schönberg.
De Leeuw was not the only one; pianist Toos Onderdenwijngaard promoted the late piano music of Liszt, which in its wildness and tonal ambiguity makes the most extreme demands on performer and audience. She recorded them in 1977 , a year earlier than Reinbert de Leeuw. The father of her teacher had studied with Liszt himself, so she knew virtually from first hand how the ideal interpretation should sound.
Toos Onderdenwijngaard was one of the founders of the Franz Liszt Kring, which formed the basis of the prestigious Franz Liszt Pianoconcours.
In Panorama de Leeuw on 2nd December you can hear both Reinbert de Leeuw and Toos Onderdenwijngaard playing these Liszt pieces.
