Friday in Metamorfosen: Liu Fang
On Friday December 19th, our programme Metamorfosen will be devoted to the work of the Empress of the Pipa (and the guzheng), Liu Fang.
Liu Fang is now world famous for her virtuosity as a soloist on the pipa and the guzheng in traditonal Chinese music, but she is just as dedicated to boosting her repertoire in world music and contemporary music, whereby improvisation is becoming increasingly prominent. For example, in 2006 she released the CD “The Sound of Silk”, on which she played with Ballaké Sissoko (kora), Alla (oud) en Henri Tournier (Bansuri flute).
Liu Fang recently performed in Muziekgebouw 't IJ with shakuhachi master Yoshio Kurahashi (Japan), kora master Pops Mohamed (South Africa) and percussionist Ziya Tabassian (Iran). The Concertzender was there are recorded everything for you! This concert will be broadcast in the near future.
