Damas del Tango

sat 25 mar 2017 23:00 hour

Argentinian tango in all his aspects, by Joep à Campo. Episode 16: Nelly Omar (2)

Nelly Omar (1911-2013) lived a long life and her career was almost just as long. She started performing at the age of thirteen, as she was urged to contribute to the measly family income.

In 1997, a 86-year-old Omar made an album, and she gave her last performance, which was over an hour long, at the tender age of 100, in the Luna Park in Buenos Aires.

Her feelingly voice, clear diction and phrasing, and classy performances made her an iconic interpreter of Argentinian tango.

Because she was first and foremost known as a radio singer, we will playing a broadcast, during this hour in which Nelly Omar can be heard the way she sounded on Radio Splendid in Argentina. This includes the introduction and conclusion. This is why some Spanish commentary can be heard in between songs and sometimes you can hear a canned applause.
