The Bengali Bauls are a street group from Calcutta that plays Indian soul music. They come from a centuries-long tradition of musicians from the east of India. When Bob Dylan visited the Bengali Bauls in 1967 while recording this album in the Big Pink, he posed for a photo that would become the cover of Bob Dylan’s John Wesley Harding album.

Miyan ki Malhar from the duo Vilayat Khan & Imrat Khan.
Vilayat Khan, one of the greatest Hindu musicians of the 20th century, was born in Gouripur in East Bengal (later Bangladesh) in August 1922. His brother Imrat Khan inherited his musicality. Vilayat’s most notable contribution to the tradition of gharana is the evolution of what is known as a vocal style or gayaki ang on sitar.
