Jon Gibson: modest virtuoso
Composer and saxophone player Jon Gibson (1940) has claimed a unique place in the American music landscape of today. He is one of the few musicians who has worked with all four core minimalists. As saxophone player virtuoso, Jon Gibson is still touring tirelessly with the Philip Glass Ensemble. But he also created his own oeuvre. The last few years he has been able to escape the shadows of his examples and more and more music of Gibson is available. Recently, his fascinating ballet music for ‘Relative Calm’ (1981) has been released. In this broadcast of Feature, we play a profile of Jon Gibsons’ oeuvre.
