Opera in the 20th century

The history of twentieth century opera.

1982: a year in which a lot was going on in the world of classical music, which was not quite the case in the world of opera. Still, Philip Glass’s second opera is born; Per Nørgård’s new opera has its premiere (and yes, this time we managed to obtain a performance of it) and, of course, long-standing composer Gian Carlo Menotti is also included.

In this episode fragments of:
• André Tchaikowsky- The Merchant of Venice
• Philip Glass-The Photographer

Other opera and operetta productions from 1982:
• Gian Carlo Menotti- The Boy Who Grew Too Fast
• Per Nørgård- Det guddomelige Tivoli (The Divine Circus)
• Robert Ward- Minutes till Midnight
• Peter Sculpthorpe- Quiros
• Minoru Miki- 峠の向かうに何があるか
• Udo Zimmermann- Die wundersame Schusterfrau
• Phyllis Tate- Scarecrow
• Anthony Burges- Blooms of Dublin
• Peter Schickele- A Little Nightmare Music
• André Tchaikowsky- The Merchant of Venice
• Philip Glass- The Photographer
• Colin Graham- The Postman Always Rings Twice
• Claudio Berio- La vera storia
