Opera in the 20th century

The history of twentieth century opera, 1986B.

1986: While Spain and Portugal join the European Union, Aruba separates from the rest of the Antilles and the first non-smoking flight takes off in Sweden, classical music is at speed. There are many new productions, some inspired by the urge to modernise (dating back to the 60s), but others, not bothered by any tradition whatsoever, seem to come from nowhere. Also, the occasional works along the lines of traditional opera. So, a remarkable mixture.

In this programme fragments of:
• X, The Life and Times of Malcolm X- Anthony Davis
• Salvatore Giuliano- Lorenzo Ferrero
• Die Schwarze Maske- Krzysztof Penderecki ( foto )

Other opera and operetta productions from 1986:

• L’écume des jours- Edison Denisov
• Gilgameš- Rudolf Brucci (Гилгамеш)
• The Phantom of the Opera – Andrew Lloyd Webber (musical)
• The Tempest-Lee Hoiby
• Troades-Aribert Reimann
• Voss- Richard Meale
• Yan Yan Tethara- Harrison Birtwistle
• The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat- Michael Nyman
• The Mask of Orpheus- Harrison Birtwistle
• Weiße Rose- Udo Zimmermann
• Edison Denisov- Quatre Filles (Четыре девушки — Vier meisjes)
• Gian Carlo menotti-Goya
• Ján Cikker- Zo života hmyzu
