Radio Romantica

Musical Romanticism, explored by Pieter de Oude.

Music of Alexander Voormolen.

Voormolen was born in Rotterdam, and was the son of the Chief Superintendent of police of the city, and his mother was a distant cousin of the composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. Voormolen lost both his parents at a young age, and after a distressful life in institutions, he fled to Paris to do, under the wings of Ravel, Roussel and Delius, what he had craved for since his early days: become a composer! After 1918, he settled in The Hague, and there, together with Willem Pijper and Sem Dresden, he became the driving force behind Dutch musical life.
