Lotte Jensen, professor of History of Dutch literature and culture at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, is doing historical research into coping with disasters in the Netherlands. In the archives, she came across a wealth of disaster songs: these songs are about drought, fires, and – frequently – about flooding. They are full of emotions, of comfort, but also of moral lessons.
