The Palace of Nostalgia

sat 16 mar 2024 19:00 hour

Music from bygone eras.

We will kick off with something that perfectly captures the essence of the Palace of Nostalgia: ‘Get out those old records’ by vocalist/pianist Martha Davis and her ‘Spouse’, who plays the bass.

In 1953, arranger, orchestra leader, and composer Gordon Jenkins started a unique project called ‘Seven Dreams,’ in which he transformed seven dreams into musical compositions—a concept that was perceived as ‘radio theater on the phonograph record’ at the time. We will play: ‘The Conductor.’

This episode features many questions: Buddy Rich (‘Can’t we be friends?’), Johnny Cash (‘What is truth?), Bob Scholte & The Ramblers (‘Weet je wat een zoentje is?’)

We will also play: Billy May and his band (‘Miles behind’) and backing Sinatra (‘Let’s get away from it all’); Duke Ellington (‘Concerto for Cootie’) and its vocal version (‘Do nothing till you hear from me’) by Mose Allison; Count Basie on organ (‘Extendend blues’).

Additionally: The Comedian Harmonists (‘Ein bisschen Leichtsinn kan nicht schaden’), Ramses Shaffy (‘Als de tros wordt losgesmeten’) and Henry Hall & The BBC Dance Orchestra (‘Radio Times’).
