Today in Mambo, a new episode of the series on Puerto Rican pianist, composer and orchestra leader Eddie Palmieri.
In this hour, various albums by Eddie and his orchestra will pass in review. This includes the album ‘The Sun of Latin Music’ which won him a Grammy Award in 1974 in the new category ‘Tropical’.
In 1976, the musician from New York won another Grammy Award, this time with the album ‘Unfinished Masterpiece’. The title refers to the haste the record company was in to release this album on time for the Grammy Awards, even though it was not yet fully completed.
You will also hear two tracks from the album ‘Lucumi, Macumba, Voodoo’ from 1978 in this hour. Its central theme was African religion in countries such as Cuba, Brazil and Haiti, mixed with the usual dose of ‘Rhythm & Blues’.
