JazzNotJazz

In JazzNotJazz, we’ve compiled a unique mix tape from a hundred years of jazz recordings, adding some meaningful and sometimes frivolous facts. As it’s also about The Soul of Jazz, there will definitely be some detours into affiliated styles. We have (irregularly) recurring elements like “Ellington Train Songs”, “Jazz Cameo’s”, “Keith Plays Miles”, “Jazz B4 ‘44” and “More is Better”.

We will kick off with a Cuban keyboard phenomenon and a Brazilian string wizard. With the intensity, understanding and enjoyment of, for example, Bill Evans and Jim Hall. And none of that is exaggerated. Then it’s time for a friend of the show and perhaps the man with the  highest quality average for his output – over 40 years with a combo line-up. This man demands our attention with his modern piano playing. He will even show us how, but fortunately with the necessary humour and perspective. It is virtually impossible to pay too much tribute to the next musical giant and source of inspiration. He was also at the forefront of fusion, in this case also on CTI.
In the nearly 100 years of jazz history, there are unfortunately far too many examples of musicians who passed away prematurely. Often because of alcohol, drugs and other misery, but also because of the generally bad healthcare in the US. This trumpet player passed away relatively recently and we would like to play a song with a strong Cuban influence. We will finish with an absolute banger. These ladies are deep south soul, funk but especially Gospel with a capital G! Repetition, question and answer game, and incredible dynamics in 10 minutes. If you don’t respond to this… Made in the present day!
