Successful American jazz and light music of the 20th century, composed primarily from Broadway musicals, musical theater and Hollywood films; the Adderleys and Friends
Alt saxophonist Julian Cannonball Adderley (1928-1975) and his brother trumpetist Nat (Nathaniel) Adderley (1931-2000) were the composers of quite a number of instrumental compositions that became Standards, and lyrics have been written on some of them as well.
Some of these compositions, mostly from the 1960s, were called Soul Jazz but, as we will see, there are also true jazz compositions among them!!
And the “Friends” are bassist Sam Jones (who was a member of the Cannonball Adderley Quintet for years) and Victor Feldman who was the pianist of the quintet in the early 1960s.
