L’Esprit Baroque

The Baroque spirit in all its musical forms. The sonata is a musical form that originated in the seventeenth century. There were two types: the sonata da chiesa, which consisted of three or four movements, alternating between fast and slow. Later, this evolved into the classical three-movement sonata. There was also the sonata da camera, made up of several movements based on dance forms. In time, this type of sonata became known as the suite. Today, we’ll hear seventeenth-century sonatas whose form was not yet completely clear.
