I
Richard Galliano & Sylvain Luc. (51:18 min)
Richard Galliano (accordion) and Sylvain Luc (acoustic guitar) pay a nostalgic tribute to a unique musical style.
The album is a fusion of French passion, verve, and virtuosity, an intimate musical journey through the era and atmosphere of France when the chanson reigned supreme. The performances are breathtaking. Richard Galliano is undoubtedly one of the most prolific and skilled accordionists. He is joined by guitarist Sylvain Luc, who has recorded a wide range of music, from blues to French gypsy jazz.

II– Giora Feidman. (53:46 min)
He was born in Argentina in 1936, but his parents were from Romania. Fleeing antisemitism there, they ended up in the South American country in the 1930s. Later in life, Feidman moved back to Israel. There, the clarinetist specialized in playing the Jewish folk music of Eastern Europe, klezmer. The classically trained clarinetist also plays tango, chamber music, Gershwin, and Schubert. On the album Safad, he collaborated with an Arab orchestra.

III– Stacey Kent, Bernard Lavilliers & Quatuor Ebène. (01:07:18 min)
This is Brazil like you’ve never heard it before. Bossanova and samba are brought together in an intoxicating multicultural cocktail with the soundtrack from Terry Gilliam’s 1985 film Brazil, Argentine tango, and songs by songwriters such as Stevie Wonder, Sting, and Charlie Chaplin, performed on this album by special guests of the Quatuor Ebène, the eclectic French singer-songwriter Bernard Lavilliers and the stylish American jazz singer Stacey Kent.

IV– Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion. (01:02:16 min)
Since its founding in 2000, the acclaimed quintet Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion has dedicated itself to creating and refining a groundbreaking sound. Classic meets Cuba, the name of their first joint project, has grown into a kind of axiom for the ensemble’s unique musical style. Their unconventional musical language reveals a refreshing approach to the works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. The witty and clever arrangements by Tobias and Kilian Forster and Tim Hahn lure the audience into a new world of dance and passion, along with an infectious zest for life.

V– Soul Gospel. (01:01:22 min)
Religious, polyphonic music, characterized by a call-and-response interplay between lead singer and congregation, an rousing build-up, and equally stirring instrumental accompaniment. Like blues and jazz, gospel forms the basis of rhythm & blues and soul. And because gospel itself also contains elements of blues and jazz, the genre was viewed with suspicion by devout believers in the early twentieth century. The music was even briefly labeled as demonic.
Advocates such as Thomas A. Dorsey (1899-1993) ensured that gospel was eventually embraced by the church. The album features 18 artists, including Odetta, Esther Marrow, and Aretha Franklin.

VI– Fra Fra Sound.
The band emerged in the late 1970s from a group of Surinamese teenagers who met weekly in the Bijlmer for jam sessions. Fra Fra means hybrid form, but also strange, different, mysterious, the invisible connection. In the years that followed, Fra Fra Sound grew into a world-class band, yet remained true to its home base: the Surinamese community in Amsterdam. The band blends jazz, African rhythms, dance music from the Caribbean, and Surinamese Kaseko, bringing together a wide range of melodies and themes from various cultures.
