Episode 7: Hard bop. On 30 October 1958 drummer Art Blakey recorded his most famous record “Moanin’” together with The Jazz Messengers. Hard bop – the jazz genre which is often associated with Blue Note – throve in the period 1958 and 1959. The album “Something else” by saxophone player Cannonball Adderly became a classic during that period.
