The Viola in the Spotlight: Concertos from Flanders
Flemish composer Jef Maes and his Walloon colleague Jean Rogister both wrote concertos for their favourite instrument: the viola. Despite their merits, these two works are rarely heard today. Rogister’s concerto is firmly rooted in the late Romantic tradition, while Maes described his own style as ‘Romantic Modernist’.
