Acoustic Roots

sun 24 aug 2014 19:00 hour

Ad van Meurs and Ankie Keultjes, live in the studio.

Ad van Meurs and partner Ankie Keultjes are guests in Acoustic Roots. They hardly need an introduction. For forty years they have published high-quality Americana, blues and country. During the broadcast Ad talks about his group The Watchman, how he actually was a singer-songwriter in the 1980s. He has played various music styles including dixiland, new wave, rock, punk, blues and folk, but he eventually ended up at his present love for country, americana and acoustic songs. Furthermore Ad is not a bad (blues) guitarist. Because of his great liking for americana he travels to America each year for performances and sometimes to record an album in peace and quiet.
When you visit his website www.advanmeurs.nl you will learn that he plays in five bands, including No Blues, Folk Survival Club and the above-mentioned the Watchman. His busy schedule can also be found there, so grab the opportunity to see him live.

Ankie Keultjes hit upon her voice when she sang lullabies by country singer Hank Williams for her son. Her voice is appropriate for country and folk. She soon got the job to ‘turn the knobs´ and because she clearly was good at it, she is behind the mixing desk and is responsible for the right sound. Also someone asked her to sing along and because she had such a beautiful voice this led to her becoming a singer. She says herself that she has become a singer by mere chance. A modest remark for someone with such a beautiful voice. At performances she often sings from behind the mixing desk. She also produces various CDs including the latest double CD by No Blues: Kind of No Blues. She says to be on a lifelong musical quest.
