Our guest is Brazilian singer-songwriter Ceumar in the Pieternel of the Pieters’ Church in Utrecht
Ceumar has been living in Amsterdam for quite a few years now and she speaks reasonably Dutch, but she won’t sing in another language. Luckily for us, because songs like Liberdade, Justo and Rio Verde from her latest CD Silencia can’t be more beautiful when sung in any language other than her mother tongue Portuguese.
Ceumar started her musical career in 1995 when she arrived in São Paulo. With her passion for simple melodies, lyrical texts and acoustic sounds she brought influences from Minas Gerais, the provence where she is from. With her guitar she can bring traditional songs to life, but she also plays contemporary compositions.
Ceumar has produced seven albums and actively participated in various musical projects and collectives in Brazil and abroad.
Her first CD ‘Dindinha’ was produced by the popular Brazilian artist Zeca Baleiro and brings us a pure mix of traditional Brazilian music, written by old and modern composers like Luiz Gonzaga, Chico César, Itamar Assumpção and Zeca Baleiro.
In februari 2015 Ceumar released her seventh album: Silencia from the ARC Music label. It was recorded in São Paulo and produced by the famous French cello player Vincent Ségal. It is a beautiful, quiet acoustic album with one up-tempo song: Segura o coco. It was received well both nationally and internationally.
