An Early Evening Stroll

tue 3 aug 2021 19:00 hour

Joseph Wölfl was during his life at least as famous as Beethoven. But today even musicologists fail to recognise him. Today, we’ll try to rectify that. He was known for his friendly, ear-warming music. But every so often he would flash his fangs. Not unlike a true wölf. An example is his intense overture which he wrote for a play about a sea battle simulating real war music. Even the peaceful Mozart, a friend of Wölfl, has strayed onto the warpath a couple of times with the music he wrote for the hip-shaking Viennese. Furthermore we listen to Wölfl’s second piano concerto in which he shined with his pearly virtuosity.
