Music by Greek Composers (1)
Following the search for a national musical identity that took place across Europe at the end of the nineteenth century, Greek composers sought to combine elements of Greek folk music and Byzantine music with European art music. In a number of programmes, we will explore how different composwers approached this task. Today, in the first episode, we’ll listen to music by the father of Greek classical music, Manolis Kalomiris (1883-1962; pictured).
