Composer: Manolis Kalomiris

Music by Greek Composers (2)

In the late nineteenth century, composers across Europe were searching for distinct national musical identities. Greek composers joined this movement, drawing on Greek folk music and Byzantine traditions and blending them with European classical music. This series explores the different ways in which composers developed this distinctive musical language.

In the second programme, we focus on Manolis Kalomiris (1883–1962), often considered the father of Greek classical music.
