Bonum est

sun 15 mar 2015 15:00 hour

A programme about Gregorian chant. Episode 141: psalms from Algeria.

In Bonum est episode 14 you will hear Psalms from the tradition of Constantine.Constantine the Great not only gave his name to Constantinople, but also to Constantine, a beautifully situated town in the east of Algeria (see photo). This town has been the centre of Jewish culture for over 2000 years. More than 1000 years that culture went hand in hand with the Islam culture. The Jewish singing of Constantine is soaked with the Arab-Andalusian style of North Africa.
