Concertzender Live

Concerts from around the country, recorded by Concertzender

Mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly will sing Brahms, Zemlinsky, Alma Mahler, Schumann, Schubert, and others.

A rich recital by the impressive English mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly. She will take us from the intimacy of Brahm’s five songs to the magnified Romance of Alexander Zemlinsky and the lyricism of Alma Mahler, who wasn’t allowed to compose by the great Gustav, but she did it anyway because her many lovers kept inspiring her. Hugo’s greatness is in the details as well, and Schumann was inspired by the young Christan Andersen’s charming poetry, whose poems were taken by Clara Schumann on a concert tour through Denmark. Robert made sure that the audience in German cities got to know them through his Opus 40. To end her recital, Dame Sarah surprises us with two light ballads. Today, the last half hour of Concertzender Live Classical is for the Canadian pianist and composer Marc André Hamelin. In addition to the comprehensive Wanderer Fantasy in which Schubert paraphrased his own song, we will hear a Nocturne of Gabriel Fauré.
