‘Anita Anita’ is an ad hoc album that literally and figuratively removed borders. Ricardo Tesi worked together with multi-instrumentalist Daniele Craighead on his album ‘Il Ballo Della Lepre’ in the early 80s. It set the trend for an exceptionally varied career, in which the great master of the melodeon became a popular studio musician and accompanist and was asked for many projects. For instance, Tesi recorded an album with the brilliant mandolin player Patrick Vaillant who, in his turn, knew fellow countryman Jan-Maria Carlotti, a contemporary troubadour. When Vaillant had the idea to perform a musical epic dedicated to the Italian freedom fighter and general Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Carlotti, Craighead, Tesi & Vaillant quartet was formed. The four of them recorded ‘Anita Anita’, an album full of Mediterrenean influences and even sung in the language of the French Languedoc: Occitan. The album was released on vinyl on the Robi Droli label as early as 1988, but it didn’t get any recognition until 1994, when the progressive Silex label rereleased it. By now, it is ready for its fourth rerelease and it will continue to be an album that literally and musically crossed borders.
