An educational programme with early music. Cantates Comiques; comical French baroque cantatas and concertos.
Comical cantatas were a new genre at the court of Louis XIV and would become very beloved at the court of Louis XV.
It was an amalgamation of French and Italian music (les Goûts-Réunies) with a lot of satire.
Humor was a big part of art and literature at the time. It was indeed during that time (around 1710) that the cantata ‘Dom Quichotte’ was written as a parody on the book ‘Don Quichotte’.
