An educational programme featuring early music. Ockeghem’s Deplorations, part 1. On 6 February 1497, 520 years ago, Walloon composer Johannes Ockeghem passed away. In the two-part series ‘Ockeghem’s Deplorations’ we listen to his requiems, both by and for Ockeghem. Part 1: music of Ockeghem and Binchois.

Josquin des Prez was one of Ockeghem’s apprentices and wrote the famous deploratie ‘Nymphes des Bois’ to commemorate his dead master.
He was inspired by Ockeghem, who himself wrote a requiem for this own teacher – Gilles Binchois.

On the anniversary of Ockeghem’s death, 6 February,  the second part is broadcast in which Josquin’s deploration for Ockeghem is featured.
