Conductor, composer and pianist Duke Ellington (1899-1974) part 133. In DUKE ELLINGTON today: All American in Jazz, the ‘jazz-version’ of the musical All American by Strouse and Adams, with Billy Strayhorn as the main arranger. The recordings date back to January 1962. From that same year we will also play some rare recordings from the month of May and a unique performance by Thelonious Monk as soloist with the Ellington orchestra during the Newport Jazz Festival on 8 July 1962!
