Dwarsliggers & Buitenbeentjes

This episode was supposed to be completely dedicated to Walter Norris, but during a recent hunt for obscure CDs the programme maker came across a copy that completely disrupted that intention. That is why in the first part of the episode, you will hear six pieces from a CD financed by the Vrienden van het Rotterdams Conservatorium, the friends of the Conservatory of Rotterdam. On this CD, released fifteen years ago (July 2010), you will hear three promising youngsters, accompanied by the then head of the jazz programme: the acclaimed bassist Hein Van de Geyn.

In the second part of the episode you will hear Walter Norris as a sideman in the quintet of alto saxophonist Herb Geller, in four pieces recorded in December 1957 in Los Angeles.
