‘Genius music friends’ is a series of programmes in which Thijs Bonger investigates what influence Mozart and Haydn had on each other. It appears to be a lot. They met at the rehearsals for a joint concert. A deep friendship developed. Together they are introduced to the music of Händel and Bach. They play in a string quartet with two other composer on a regular basis. Haydn’s music is often on the music stand. Like a musical sponge Mozart absorbs it all and in one of his later works we often hear passages and ideas he picked up from Haydn. Mozart builds on these passages and ideas. We will now hear some examples.
