Genius Music Friends Part XV
In ‘Genius Music Friends’, Thijs Bonger explores what Mozart and Haydn have in common. They shared their unlimited admiration for Nancy Storace, an English-Italian opera diva. With her talent for singing and acting – and her looks (see portrait) – she performed in many opera houses. Haydn and Mozart composed and arranged tailor-made pieces for her. Haydn engaged her for his oratorio ‘Il Ritorno di Tobia’. We never hear this piece nowadays. But there is too much beautiful music to ignore, such as Haydn’s opera Armida, from which we will hear a duet.
