Hummel revisited

Episode XXXII. In 1830, Hummel is at the hight of his fame. The proof is a very succesful concert trip of six months to Paris and London. Hummel has an extreme talent for commerce and intensively manages his own PR. In doing that, he uses all kinds of universal selling techniques. In the music he composed especially for this tour, he cleverly responds to everything that’s popular at the moment, such as Weber’s fairy tale opera Oberon on which he elaborates, or a piece that uses the massive popularity of touring yodel companies from Tirol. Cut out for that part is the famous Spanish opera diva Maria Malibran (see picture). Furthermore, Hummel arranges Scottish folk songs.
