False waltzes. In 1957 drummer Max Roach called it ‘Jazz in 3/4 Time’, but a waltz is of course much more than a 3/4 time. Today, some excursions within the waltz feeling, ‘le sentiment de la valse’, straight through jazz styles. The waltz as a universal phenomenon, with surprising variations and remarkable deviations.
