For this first episode, Ash Ra Tempel’s Jenseits is no coincidental choice. At the time, in 1973, it was my first encounter with music that would later come to be called ‘ambient’ (at that time it was referred to as ‘Kosmische Musik’). Ad Visser played it on his legendary radio programme SuperCleanDreamMachine.
I didn’t know such music existed — it seemed as though it came from far behind an almost forgotten dream. That was the beginning of a lifelong passion for ‘ethereal sound sculptures’.
The genre evolved into many branches: today’s soundscapes can no longer be compared to the Kosmische Musik of the early 1970s.
