On Dolmen, Natalia Spiner (Buenos Aires) combines field recordings from all over the world with a range of instruments, including saxophone, vibraphone, cello, duduk, flute and keyboards. She describes it as ‘a study on transformation, where decay becomes surface and stillness turns into motion’.
Fovea Hex is a project centred around Irish singer Clodagh Simonds. Their music is unmistakably English, yet impossible to pin down to a single genre. Their albums are invariably accompanied by remixes from renowned artists in the ambient/electronica scene. On The Salt Garden III, that artist is none other than Steven Wilson. The title consists of altered versions of the titles of the tracks on the original album.
Steven Wilson is also the man behind Bass Communion, the name under which he releases deep ambient tracks. As with everything by Steven Wilson, the production is razor-sharp. The source material for Sisters Oregon is a recording of a boys’ choir—something you only hear once you know it is there. As for the meaning of the title, Wilson has kept things mysterious.
