John Williams and Bernard Herrmann: More Than Film Musci
John Williams (pictured) and Bernard Herrmann are best known as film composers. Williams wrote the scores for films including Star Wars, Jaws and Indiana Jones, while Herrmann is mostly associated with the films of Alfred Hitchcock. But both composers also wrote music that stands entirely on its own, without the need for images.
This afternoon, we’ll listen to Williams’s Concerto for Solo Flute, Strings & Percussion and Essay for Strings, as well as Bernard Herrmann’s Clarinet Quintet – Souvenirs de Voyage.
