Arnold Schönberg’s Musical Revolution
Arnold Schoenberg ranks among the most radical musical innovators of the twentieth century. He was a composer who pushed the boundaries of tonality and eventually abandoned the tonal system altogether. Born in Vienna in 1874, he grew up in a musical environment still firmly rooted in the traditions of Beethoven, Brahms and Wagner. Yet Schoenberg sensed that this tradition had reached the end of its possibilities.
