Special Instruments (part 5): Aerophones.

In the (5th) Special Instruments episode of Metamorphoses, the main focus is on aerophones. Aerophones are instruments which, by means of blown-in or sucked-through air, set into vibration a small metal tab also known as the tongue. This produces a tone with a characteristic sound. You are undoubtedly familiar with a number of these aerophones, such as the mouth organ or harmonica, the accordeon and the squeezebox.

We play a number of variants and also a few examples of performers who have an eccentric way of playing. Furthermore, this episode features some lesser known instruments such as the concertina, the bandoneon and the harmonium, an ancient instrument like the sho and the shrutibox, which is quite popular nowadays.
