On this episode cantatas 8 and 9 from Christoph Graupner’s cantata cycle for the Passiontide.
In 1741Christoph Graupner composed a cycle with 10 cantatas for the Passiontide. The foirst sounded on Sunday Estomihi, also known as Sunday Quinquagesima: the 50th day before Easter and the Sunday before Ash Wednesday. The last was performed on Good Friday.
The lyrics were written by Graupners brother-in-law, Johann Conrad Lichtenberg.
In this programme we will be listening to cantatas 8 and 9. To conclude, two more motets by Gottfried August Homilius.
