Tony Overwater(Rotterdam, the Netherlands, 1965) is a bassist laureate, who has gained himself a place on the European Jazz stage with his own sound and way of playing, not only as a solo artist and leader of his own projects, but also as a sideman. Tony plays a wide range of musical styles and is mostly known for his pioneering work with Arabian music with Rima Khcheich. As a sideman, Tony is a member of a.o the Hermine Deurloo quartet. Besides composing for his own band and others, Tony also writes for modern dance, documentaries, movies and music for children. In 1989, graduated from the Koninklijk Conservatorium, tony received in that same year the Podium award for the most promising Dutch Jazz musician. He has worked with international important musicians like Misha Mengelberg, Sylvie Courvoisier, Calefax, Yuri Honing and David Murray. The Tony Overwater Trio received the Edison for the best Dutch recording of 2001 for their CD OP, and a golden record for their children’s album Kikker Swingt! in 2008.
