Born in Sicily in 1947, Salvatore Sciarrino initially trained as a sculptor before turning to music. He became fascinated by the interplay of silence and sound, exploring it throughout an extensive body of work encompassing chamber music, orchestral compositions, opera and solo pieces. In the Netherlands, the Yves Ensemble has been a leading advocate of his music. This programme features a recording of a special concert given in Tokyo in 2024, showcasing a cross-section of Sciarrino’s work. The specially assembled Tokyo ensemble is conducted by Yoichi Sugiyama.
