Maybe 1926 is described in history books as a rather insignificant year, for the opera however it delivered some gems. Most of those aren’t able to grasp the attention of the 21st century audience, but that doesn’t keep us from dusting them off. You can sense the interbellum period in the music a little bit: positive but nervous, willing but searching for safety, modernistic without deviating from tradition.
