Opera in the 20th century

The history of twentieth century opera. 1979 B.

1979: in a year that does not seem to offer a lot in the world of opera, two of them stand out and get all the attention. Unfortunately, there are no recordings available of the other productions. But the good news is that, because of this, a number of premieres in the orchestral performance practice, which are hardly ever performed anymore, get the publicity they deserve.

• Peter Maxwell Davies- The Lighthouse
• Wolfgang Rihm- Jakob Lenz
• Havergal Brian- Symphony No. 31

Other opera and operetta productions from 1979 are:
• Gian Carlo Menotti- La Loca
• Hossein Dehlavi- Mana and Mani
• Dominick Argento- Miss Havisham’s Fire
• Garland Anderson- Soyazhe
• Ādolfs Skulte- Eža kažociņš (A hedgehog’s coat)
• Paul Dessau- Leonce und Lena
• Per Nørgård- Siddharta
• Lee Hoiby- Something New for the Zoo
• Minoru Miki- Ada, An Actor’s Revenge (あだ)
• Peter Maxwell Davies- Cinderella
• Thea Musgrave- A Christmas Carol
• Salvatore Sciarrino- Aspern
