In 2019, Get Physical turns its attention to the burgeoning Indian dance music scene with a compilation album featuring some of the country’s key contemporary talents. The exploration begins with the Bangalore-based act Soulspace. Further collaborations involve a range of DJs, vocalists, and multi-instrumentalists. It is a colorful, charismatic, and immersive journey through the sounds of the emerging Indian underground.

Described by the Wall Street Journal as “one of modern music’s most compelling vocalists,” New York-born, Tamil Nadu-raised singer and multi-instrumentalist Ganavya is releasing her new album, *Daughter of a Temple*. The album follows her appearance at Sault’s acclaimed 2023 live debut in London, where—according to *The Guardian*—her “voice held a delicate emotional power capable of reducing stoics to sobbing wrecks.”

A raga by Ali Akbar Khan. (19:10 min)
Ali Akbar Khan (1922–2009) hailed from what was then East Bengal—now Bangladesh. He was one of the most successful Indian musicians. Regarded as a living legend in India, he was admired by both Western and Eastern musicians for his compositions and his mastery of the sarod. In 1967–68, Ali Akbar Khan founded the first school for the study of North Indian classical music in the West: the Ali Akbar College in San Rafael, California.
