Christian Fennesz (1962) is an Austrian guitar player who plays guitar through his laptop. By doing so his music gets a strong electronic character. Via the laptop he makes use of a number of effects and processors. This results in a mixture of melody with electronic texture.
Christian studied music at the art academy. He started to play guitar when he was about 8 or 9 years old. At the end of the eighties he played and sang in the Vienna underground band "Maische". In the early nineties he got in touch with the Vienna techno scene. From then on he started a solo career. At first he experimented with guitar and synthesizer. He worked with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Keith Rowe, Peter Rehberg, Jim O’Rourke, David Sylvian and Mike Patton.
Laguna is a piece for two guitars. The other guitar is played by Burkhard Stangl (of the band Efzeg e.g.).
Hotel Paral.lel (1997) is the first CD of Fennesz and was released on the Austrian record label Mego of Ramon Bauer, Andreas Pieper and Peter Rehberg.
Venice (2004) is the fourth solo album of Fennesz. It was released on the British label Touch of Mike Harding and Jon Wozencroft.

Chill Out is a kind of "parody tribute CD" to the classical ambient album of The KLF. This becomes especially clear through the design of the sleeve. The sheep on the original sleeve are replaced by wolves. Musically the comparison doesn’t really hold. This compilation primarily contains abstract music which uses a lot of noise sounds, dentist drills and bleeps and other weird sounds.
Decay is a compilation on Ash International which is part of a series of three compilations on this label; Chiky(u)u, Scatter and Decay.
Split Series #15 is a split LP between Fennesz and Main (=Robert Hampson, who will get a change later in this series about minimal electronic music). This split series is released by the English record label FatCat Records from Brighton. More about this series later.
Picknick Mit Hermann! is a compilation CD with live recordings of performances which took place in Hermannpark in Vienna in 1997.
