Their ‘weird wave’ or ‘funeral pop’ music is minimal, dark, politic. Xavier plays pipe organs, harmoniums, philicorda, piano and Ruth plays machines, drums and voice. Emerging during the early stages of the recording industry in Japan, the ryūkōka style adopted western classical, blues & jazz elements into traditional and classical Japanese music.

Francesco Cavaliere and Tomoko Sauvage embody a tactile audio visual display, radiating the color green into sounds and painting meditative music. By transforming collected objects into invented instruments and scenography, each motif becomes a dedication to a specific situation, an anecdote or a symbol, sometimes real and other times absurd, that the artists have encountered through their travels and conversations: the Chinese myth about a man wearing a green hat, naming convention of Japanese traffic lights, or even the imaginary chants of frolicking twin dolphins. Papillon is the project of Discrepant head honcho, Gonçalo F Cardoso (with guest appearances by Cédric Stevens and Kink Gong, Mike Cooper and Yannick Dauby). Taking inspiration from the 1969 French adventure book of the same name, Papillon explores the sonic interzones between dream and nightmare. Bethan Kellough is a sound artist and composer. She specialises in creating immersive sound-worlds, drawing from environmental sound and field recording practices. Her ambisonic compositions and installations have been exhibited internationally, and her debut release on Touch was listed in Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Avant Albums of 2016.
