A program full of American Roots Music. Episode: Going Places – about traveling.
Without ‘traveling,’ American roots music would likely have remained a collection of isolated musical styles. But thanks to railroads, highways, and rivers, both goods and people were constantly on the move. And those people took their music with them. In this way, different melodies, lyrics, techniques, instruments, and vocal styles were carried to every corner of the US, leading to the cross-pollination between all those roots styles.
An episode about travel, then, with songs about leaving, coming home, hope and homesickness—and, of course, longing.
