Slipped Through the Net

Two Brazilian big bands form neighbouring states in the country’s northeast go head to head: SpokFrevo Orquestra from Recife, in Pernambuco, and Letieres Leite’s Orkestra Rumpilezz from Salvador, in Bahi.

Rumpilezz in particular stands out for its unusual big-band line-up. At the heart of the orchestra is a five-piece percussion section, which drives the ensemble with the traditional claves of Bahia.
