The Early World

sat 20 jan 2018 07:00 hour

With music from Turkey, Sweden, France, Belgium, Bulgaria and Macedonia.

 1- Dirtmusic.
Guitarists Chris Eckman and Hugo Race have previously worked with musicians in Timbuktu and now they have arrived in Istanbul, where they recorded a psychedelic, world fusion album with saz player Murat Ertel. It is Turkish, psychedelic, rock, funk, electronics, with an occasional singer, an easy-to-listen album with lots of surprises.

2- Musicmusicmusic.
Michael Edlund and brothers Fabia and Josef Kallerdahl together form Musimusicmusic. A jazz trio that reaches far beyond the traditional boundaries of the genre. Their style is based on simple melodies that evolve in creative ways. The first song, Basenji, for example, stays first in a relatively stable register that is supported by the pianist ‘s ostinato figures, and is immediately transformed as soon as the drummer comes in with a funky, aggressive beat. And it ends with a refined interpretation of Bob Dylan’s You’re A Big Girl Now.
CD. Aventyret – Musicmusicmusic. Label: Hoob Records (2017).

3- La Panika.
In the spirit of the Eastern European village band, La Panika interprets the gipsy and Balkan music of Bulgaria and Macedonia. With their new album Darmadan, La Panika is back in the forefront of the European Balkan brass scene. A unique repertoire of some unknown pearls from the ‘Roma canon’, has been arranged with a contemporary sound compared to the original version. Two instruments have been added to this album: the accordion and the Iraqi qunun.
