Composer: Alfred Schnittke

Music by 20th-century composers.

Alfred Schnittke.

Today, The Last Century focuses on the German-Russian composer Alfred Schnittke. Schnittke (1934-1998) developed his own distinctive style of composition in which many influences from different musical periods can be detected. This makes it difficult to place him in a particular genre or category.

1  Alfred Schnittke; Concerto no. 4 for violin and orchestra. Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky, with Gidon Kremer playing the violin.

2  Alfred Schnittke; Quintet for piano, two violins, viola and cello. Irina Schnittke playing the piano, Mark Lubotsky and Tamaz Batiashvili playing the violin, Grazyna Lubotsky playing the viola and Karl Bernhard von Stumpff playing the cello.
